«The archive is a commitment to time» —with this premise, How to archive (Archívate, in Spanish) was born, a fanzine created from the meeting and collaboration of three women-led collectives in Chile: Hambre Hambre Hambre, dedicated to self-publishing and zines; Las Luisas, an archivist collective; and us, Arde, also engaged in archival practice.
In 2024, we created this fanzine with practical tips on how to start an archive, originally designed for Kontrabando, an annual graphic arts fair held in Santiago de Chile, where we distributed it among independent artists and publishers. Our goal was to promote archival awareness and convey the importance of the archive in present-day creative processes.
The fanzine generated a lot of interest, which is why we want it to keep circulating among more hands, diverse trades, and —now, with its English version— across new territories.
So far, it has reached Porto, Montevideo, San José de Costa Rica, Berlin, and soon New York. And we hope it travels even further. 🌍
